A Little Purple Dress

So I had good reason to sew up a new little outfit… our 12 year anniversary was a few weeks ago and we had a fun outing planned without kids! How fun to be us!

I made McCalls 7159, a pattern I planned to use for everyday dresses.

However, I was short material on my original pattern and improvised with this McCalls. It worked out well. A nice simple dress as I had anticipated.

This is a wrap around so it is a little flattering. Also a pleat in the back that gives lots of room for moving around. Overall this still feels very casual and I do wish I had made something a bit more fancy for my date.

And where did we go you may ask…the Circus of course!!

Cirque Du Soleil was in town and we absolutely loved it. Such a great time to reconnect on something fun.

Thanks for stopping by!

Summer Top

I was excited to try a pattern from a Japanese  sewing book I gifted myself over Christmas, from Yoshiko Tsukiori, Stylish Dress Book.

It seemed like a bargain to get over 20 patterns for $12, but now I see that there is quite a bit of work in tracing and cutting a template. However we are always trying to learn new things aren’t we! I like to think of this simple top as a great candidate for the 4th of July!

I appreciate the darts in this loose style, without them it would be too baggy.

My ruffles leave room for improvement…

This top was a quick make and so it shall be a quick blog post too!

Thanks for taking a look-see.

Holiday Wrap Up

I would love to share my holiday outfit with everyone. I hadn’t known what I was going to sew up until I stumbled upon the pattern and the fabric weeks before Christmas; but I instantly fell in love with these dark poinsettias and paired it with a Butterick  6168.

I really, really love the modern aspects of this pattern. It looks so good as a tunic or dress. I will be planning many spring dresses in this style!

I didn’t make a muslin as I had told myself I would but it worked out fine. The fit is pretty good so there was no need to even worry about a “something I should do”… there is enough stress at the holidays.

I do remember the zipper being inserted a few times although there is no way you could tell with all the busiest of this fabric. I sized it an 8 (bust), 10 (waist), and 12 (hips).

A little twirling never hurt anybody!

I had a fun and festive holiday, even while fighting off a bit of flu, and I hope everyone else fared as well!

Take care into 2017!!
